Thankfully we had no rain but it was a long day with the pros
playing 36 holes in ever increasing temperatures. Scoring was difficult
off the gold tees stretching the course to almost 7200 yards. Congratulations
to Chris Gill who managed rounds of 72 and 75 to win by three shots
from Paul Hendriksen. As standard scratch for amateurs is 76 on
this course does this reduce their handicaps??
The results of this season’s curtailed Kenyon trophy are
attached. Barry Austin – Mr Consistency who scored points
in every event in the season – edged ahead of Chris Gill
who finished in second place. The trophy and the cheques were presented
after the Dartmouth event.
The results of the amateur event will be posted here when a decision
on a ruling has been received from the Belfry.
PS
After advice from the Rules Office of the PGA it was confirmed
that the disqualification of certain players – both amateur and
professional – arising from changing the groups in which
they were playing was correct. It upheld the application of rule
6.3 and
confirmed that players must not move from two 2-balls to a 4-ball
format unless authorised by the Committee. This unfortunately did
not happen and 8 players were affected.
The amateur competition was therefore won by me with 35 points with
Andy Dix of Dartmouth in second place with 33 points. A less than
satisfactory outcome to what had been a very enjoyable golfing day.
Over and out on season 2008-09!!
