The
seventh Devon Alliance event of the 2009/2010 season was held at
Royal North Devon Golf Club on 4th March 2010. 108 Alliance members
enjoyed a fantastic sunny winters day with barely a cloud in the
sky,
although there was a stiff breeze for the players to contend with.
The course was in fantastic shape, with the greens as good and as
quick
as any in the South West of England for this time of year.
In the Pro-Am event, there was a tie for first place on 42 points
between Elfordleigh Head Professional Nick Cook and his amateur partner
Andy Clegg of Staddon Heights and the Exeter pairing of Gary Milne
and Nigel Cox. This was enough to win by 1 point from Devon Alliance
Captain Duncan Arnold and his partner Steve Bristow.
In the Am-Am event, Staddon Heights Mark Wood playing with Damien
Lidstone of Elfordleigh took the honours with a score of 39 points.
This was enough to win by 1 point from 3 different pairs on 38 points.
In the Kenyon Trophy there was an excellent score of 38 points by
Mark Taylor from Exeter, which included 5 birdies in the last 8 holes.
In second place was the experienced Neil Holman from Torbay Golf Centre
on 36 points.
The
Alliance Captain Duncan Arnold thanked Royal North Devon Golf Club
for hosting the event, in particular all the Green staff for producing
a golf course in fantastic condition. He also thanked the RND Secretary
Darren Found, Lee Barker and his staff in the Kitchen and behind
the
bar and the Professionals Iain Parker and Mike Wilson in the shop.
The next event is the Tavistock Alliance on Thursday 1st April.
