The sixth fixture in the 2010/2011 season was
the Carter Dawes Devon Alliance held at East Devon Golf Club. This
Alliance was rearranged
after being cancelled in November and 116 Alliance members played
on a golf course in brilliant condition. The conditions were very
testing and cold, with a wind chill of –1 degree’s, but
remained dry and the scoring was once again very good.
Saunton Professional Jason Avery and his amateur partner Jeremy
Nicholls won the Pro-Am event with a great score of 43 points. This
was enough to win by 3 shots from Ben Martin and Steve Bristow from
Hele Park and Exeter Head Professional Gary Milne in partnership
with Roger Worthington with 40 points.
In the Am-Am event, it was the Exeter pairing of Colin Wayman and
Bill Seath who won the competition with 39 points. They won on count
back from the Yelverton partnership of Tim Shobrook and Andy Thompson,
also on 39 points. In third place on 37 points were Simon Moore and
Alex Lock from Holsworthy.
Gary Milne won the Professional individual with an excellent score
of 38 points. This was enough for a one shot victory over another
Exeter Pro Chris Gill, with the Devon Alliance vice captain Dan Wood
in third place with a level par 36 points.
There is now a three-way tie at the top of the Professional Kenyon
with Nick Cook (Elfordleigh) being joined at the top of the Order
of Merit with Barry Austin (Crediton) and Ben Martin (Hele Park).
The Devon Alliance Vice Captain Dan Wood thanked East Devon Golf
Club for allowing the Devon Alliance to visit their club, and in
particular Club Secretary Julian Reynolds, Professionals Trevor Underwood
and Ben Thorn, Paul Newcombe and the green staff and all the bar
and catering staff for an excellent meal to follow the golf.
Dan Wood also thanked the sponsor of the day Simon Carter of Carter
Dawes Independent Financial Advisors and their continued support
of the Devon Alliance.
The next Alliance fixture is on Thursday 10th February 2011 at Royal
North Golf Club and I will look forward to seeing you all then.
