The
final event of the 2010/2011 Devon Alliance season was played at
Honiton Golf Club on the 5th May 2011. 68 Alliance golfers played
on a course in fine condition. This was also the final event in both
the Professional and Amateur Order of Merits and three different
Pros
had the chance to take first place.
In the
Pro-Am competition, it was Christian Vine (Axe Cliffe) and his partner
John Jones (Honiton) who took first prize with a great
score of 44 points. Christian goes back to Austria for the summer
season this weekend so this was a great way for Christan to finish
off the winter
season in Devon.
In second place were Chris Gill (Exeter)
and his partner Mark Fowler, also from Exeter. Chris and Mark scored
43 points and beat the pairings
of Neil Holman (Torbay GC) and Tony Green (Churston) and Alliance
Captain Stuart Disney (Padbrook) and Tom Evans (Padbrook) into third
place.
In the Am-Am event, the Exminster partnership
of Adrian Hughes and Matt Sail won with a fantastic score of 46 points.
This was one of
the best scores of the season and won the event by a massive 7 shots
from the Yelverton pair of Tim Shobrook and Andy Thompson. In third
place also on 39 points were Roger Scarrett and Steve Berry from
Saunton.
This
was enough for Tim Shobrook to win the Amateur Order of Merit and
he was crowned Amateur Kenyon Champion for 2010/11. The second place
for Andy Thompson in the last event was enough for Andy to promote
himself to second in the OOM and Adrian Hughes finished in third
place
in the Order of Merit.
In the Kenyon Trophy, it was Captain Stuart
Disney who won the event with a great score of 41 points (5 under par).
Stuart has come into
some good form recently and it was a fantastic way to end the season
with the Captain winning the final event. In joint second place were
Chris Gill and Christian Vine with 38 points.
This result was enough for Chris Gill to
be crowned Professional Kenyon Champion for 2010/11. Chris won the OOM
by 3 points from Barry Austin
(Crediton) with Ben Martin (Hele Park) in third place.
The
Alliance Captain Stuart Disney thanked Honiton Golf Club for allowing
the Alliance to visit
the club. He also thanked Professional’s
Adrian Cave and James Pickard for all their help on the day, as well
as all the Green’s staff for producing the course in fine
condition. Stuart also thanked the entire bar and catering staff
and finally
all the Amateur members of the Alliance for their support throughout
the
year.
