The
Titleist Devon Alliance was held on the Cornish links course of Perranporth
Golf Club. The golf course is one of the best draining
courses in England, as even with heavy rain the previous days the
course was in great condition. The players started their rounds in
light rain
but the conditions took a turn for the worse and heavy rain came
when the first groups reached the back nine and made the conditions
very
difficult.
Even though the conditions were very testing the scores was brilliant.
The Pro-Am event was won by Fingle Glen Professional Mark Hurst and
his partner Danny Hoskins with a fabulous 45 points. The Fingle Glen
pair won by two points from Ben Martin and Guy Westaway (Hele Park)
on 43 points.
In the Am-Am event, it was the Saunton pairing of Charlie West and
Chris Norman who won with 41 points. They won on count back from the
Boringdon Park pairing of Scott Lawry and Martin Kent. It was the Alliance specialist Nick Cook who won the Kenyon individual
with a fantastic score of 38 points (2 under par). Nick was four under
par with three holes to play before 2 bogies in the final few holes
but was still a fantastic effort. In joint second place were Paul Hendriksen
(Churston) and Hele Park Professional Ben Martin.
Nick Cook extends his lead in the Kenyon to 24 points, six points
clear of Ben Martin and Barry Austin (Crediton) on 14 points. In the
Amateur Kenyon Charlie West from Saunton is leading with 8.5 points. The Devon Alliance Captain Stuart Disney thanked Perranporth Golf
Club for allowing the Devon Alliance to visit Perranporth. Stuart also
thanked club secretary David Mugford, Derek Mitchell and his staff
in the Pro shop, the Green staff for presenting the course in fantastic
condition and the entire bar and catering staff for a fantastic carvery
to follow the golf.
