Tavistock Golf Club
Thursday 25th November 2010

The recent cold weather played havoc with the Tavistock Alliance on Thursday 25th November. It was a very cold day and a ground frost that meant the course didn’t open until 11 o‘clock. The competition changed from 4 ball betterball to a shot gun greensomes competition played in 6 balls was the only way to get the 128 competitors around the course.

The course was in fantastic order, in particular the greens that were exception for this time of year. The best score of the day in the Pro Am competition was an outstanding 39 points from Hele Park professional Ben Martin and his partner Steve Bristow, also from Hele Park. It was a good day for Hele Park as Head Professional Duncan Arnold came second on 37 points with his East Devon amateur partner Simon ‘Barry’ Carter. In third place was Elfordleigh’s Nick Cook and Greg Lang. The Am-Am competiton was won by Peter Lewis and David Ewings from Torquay with 36 points, with 6 other pairs tied for second on 34 points.

The new Devon Alliance Captain Stuart Disney thanked Tavistock Golf Club and club captain Shaun Kiely for accommodating the Devon Alliance and making the day go ahead in very difficult circumstances. He thanked Head Professional Stuart Steel and his staff in the Pro Shop for making the day possible. The catering and bar staff did a brilliant job and the food was fantastic and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day at Tavistock.
