The Titleist Devon Alliance was held on the Cornish links course of Trevose Golf Club for an away day for the Christmas Alliance for 2010. 120 players travelled down the A30 and A38 with many wondering if the event would take place, as there was a heavy frost in most parts of Devon the night before but fortunately there was only a light frost at Trevose and a 11am shotgun start meant there was enough time for the frost to clear.
The course was in fantastic condition for December and especially with the recent weather. The format for the day was a four player team event with two scores to count. The scoring on the day was exceptional and it was Neil Holman (Torbay GC) who took first place with his team of Will Godfrey (Stover), Tony Green (Churston) and R Osbourne (Churston). Neil’s team scored 88 stableford points (16 under par) and was enough for a one shot victory.
In second place with 87 points was the Exeter team of Head Professional Gary Milne and his amateur colleagues of Neil Cox, Max Burrow and Roger Worthington. The Exeter team pipped the Okehampton team into third place on countback. The Okehampton team was lead by Head Professional Ashley Moon and was partnered with Lee Pengelley, Gary Carey and Martin O’Connor.
A Christmas 3 course meal followed the event and the food and service the Alliance received was outstanding and a fantastic way to end a very enjoyable event. A huge thank to Ian Atkinson and all the catering staff for all their efforts on the day.
The Devon Alliance Captain Stuart Disney thanked Trevose Golf Club and in particular Nick Gammon for allowing the Devon Alliance to visit Trevose Golf Club. Stuart also thanked Assistant Manager David Cowan, Gary Lenaghan and his staff in the Pro shop, the Green staff for presenting the course in fantastic condition and finished off by wishing everyone in the Alliance a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The next Alliance fixture is on Thursday 13th January 2011 at Perranporth Golf Club and I will look forward to seeing you all then.
