Thirty
teams battled the elements for the Christmas Team Event at Trevose
on Thursday 8th December. From
the moment play began, driving
rain on a strong south-westerly wind became the ‘Dragon’ which
required slaying, and not the course.
As is usually the case in such difficult conditions, scoring was tough,
but Jon Langmead(Exminster) together with Craig Townsend, Matt Sail
and Alan Pascoe amassed a very creditable 74 pts, with two scores to
count, and secured first place.
Barry Austin(Crediton) and Martin Ruth(Torquay) both began their rounds
on the 10th Hole, and in addition to the weather, battled each other
for second spot. With Austin, Jason Bourner, J McGuigan and Mark Scott-Tucker
edging Ruth, Mike Goodrich, Rob Corbett and Pete Lewis into 3rd place
by a single point.
It was a similar story for 4th and 5th places with Albert MacKenzie(Saunton)
edging out Mark Hurst(Fingle Glen) also by a single point, 65 and 64
respectively.
It’s amazing how a shower, jacket and tie, together with a little
alcohol, can transform a tough round into an enjoyable day, especially
when it’s followed by Turkey and all the trimmings. Captain
Dan Wood, who presented the prizes, praised Trevose for an excellent
meal
and their attention to detail throughout the day.
