The
fourth Devon Alliance event of the 2009/2010 season was held at Churston
Golf Club on Thursday
26th November had a field of 120 players. This is the largest field
for a Devon Alliance for many years and despite the heavy rain we had
in the days leading up to the event, the course was in remarkable condition.
Churston is always one of the most popular events in the Alliance and
all the day’s competitions were very close.
In the Pro-Am event, Hele Park professional Ben Martin and his amateur
partner Steve Bristow won with a score of 42 points. This was 1 point
more than Chris Gill and his partner P Smale. There was a tie for
third place with five pairing scoring 40 points.
In the Am-Am event, Honiton’s pairing of B Dunn and S Martin
had the best score of the day with an impressive score of 43 points.
This was enough to win by 1 point from Yelverton’s Jonathon
Philpotts who was partnered by Richard Woods of Bigbury. Churston’s
manager Simon Bawden and home member Simon Knapman were third of
41 points.
In the Kenyon Trophy, there was a share of first place with Exeter
Golf Club’s Chris Gill and home Professional Dan Hendriksen
with a good score of 37 points. Chris has now the leader in the
Kenyon competition after 3 events.
The Devon Alliance would like to thank the sponsors for the Churston
Alliance, South Devon Vending, Churston Court and R J Knapman and
sons. All sponsorship for the Devon Alliance is much appreciated.
The Alliance Captain Duncan Arnold thanked Churston Golf Club for
hosting the event, in particular all the Green staff. They produced
a golf course in fantastic condition despite all the heavy rain
the course has endured in recent days. The Captain also thanked Churston’s
manager Simon Bawden, the professionals Rob Butterworth, Dan Leins
and Dan Hendriksen and the entire bar and catering staff at the
club.
I would also like to thank all the committee for their help on the
day, without which the day would never of been a success. A big thank
you to Barry Austin, Isaac Greenwood, Malcolm Jordain, Simon Carter,
Duncan Arnold, Martin Ruth and especially David Wright who was stand
in Secretary for the day.
The next event is at Dawlish Warren Golf Club on Thursday 3rd December
for the Christmas 4 Man Team event.
