The eleventh Devon Alliance event was held at Crediton Golf Club on Thursday 13th May 2010. 62 Alliance members played in the final 4BBB event of the season and was the final event in both the Professionals and Amateurs Kenyon Order of Merit.
In the Pro-Am event, home Professional Barry Austin and club member Dave Slee were clear winners with 44 points. They won by 3 points from the Torquay pairing of Tom Hiscock and Roy Bovey and Chris Gill and Cliff Nightingale.
In the Am-Am event, Mark Wood won his fourth Alliance event of the year with his partner Mark Boulting. Wood (Staddon Heights) and Boulting (Elfordleigh) won with 43 points. In second place were Paul Skidmore and Richard Reid from Okehampton with 42 points, with the Honiton pair of Roy Bumpstead and Paul Hill in third with 40 points.
In the Kenyon Trophy, Barry Austin (Downes Crediton) added the individual prize to his team prize with a great score of 39 points. Chris Gill from Exeter was second on 38 points. In joint third place were Tom Hiscock (Torquay) and Churston’s Paul Hendriksen.
This event concluded the Professional Kenyon Trophy for the 2009 – 2010 season. Paul Hendriksen won the event and was presented with the trophy from Alliance Captain Duncan Arnold. Paul is a deserved winner and has dominated the Order of Merit all the way throughout the season. In second place was last year’s winner Barry Austin, with Chris Gill in third.
In the Amateur Kenyon Order of Merit, the prolific Mark Wood (Staddon Heights) won with a fantastic series of results in the later part of the season. Mark won four of the last five alliances and has played consistent golf throughout the year. In second place in the Order of Merit was Nick Tedesco of Elfordleigh and Paul Skidmore from Okehampton finished in third place.
The Alliance Captain thanked Crediton Golf Club for hosting the event, in particular all the Green staff for producing a golf course in fantastic condition. He also thanked the Golf Secretary Robin Goodey, all the staff behind the bar and in the Kitchen and the Professionals Barry Austin and James Martin in the shop. Also a big thank you to David Wright, who took over as Alliance Secretary for the day.
The final event of the season is the Team Championship at Teignmouth Golf Club on Thursday 27th May.
