Thursday 18th February 2010

Kenyon Trophy & 4BBB Pro-Am & Am-Am

The six Devon Alliance event of the 2009/2010 season was held at Wrangaton Golf Club on 18th February. Heavy rain overnight meant that only back 9 holes were open and after a course inspection and a 45 minutes delay the competitors played the back 9 holes twice to make up the 18 holes. Although there was surface water on the fairways and rough, the greens were in fantastic condition and very quick despite the heavy rain.
In the Pro-Am event, Torquay Head Professional Martin Ruth and his amateur partner Mark Passmore won with a score of 42 points. This was 3 points clear of Axe Cliffe’s Christian Vine and Matthew Bond. In third place on 38 points was Ashley Moon and Martin O’Connor from Okehampton.
In the Am-Am event, Tavistock partnership of Graham Ruth and Pete Leverton won with a score of 36 points. This was enough to win by 3 points from 4 pairs. In the Kenyon Trophy there was an excellent score of 35 points by Ashley Moon. Ashley claimed first place by 1 point from Christian Vine with Dan Hendriksen of Churston scoring 33 points to come third.
The Alliance President Martin Ruth thanked Wrangaton Golf Club for hosting the event, in particular all the Green staff for getting the course playable despite the conditions. He also thanked the Wrangaton Secretary Bob Clark, Kerry and her staff in the Kitchen and behind the bar and Andy in the Pro shop.
The next event is the Royal North Devon Alliance on Thursday 4th March.
