As an organisation the Devon County PGA are very small, compared
to the European Tour, but they have contributed significantly over
the 10 year`s they have been running events throughout the County.
At each of their events, the Pro`s make a significant donation
to each club`s Junior Section, who host one of their tournament`s.
This figure has, over the years added up, and it was only recently
that one of the Devon golf club secretaries, asked how much might
have been raised in total, over the years.
The Devon Pro`s committee scratched their heads, as nobody had
worked out an exact amount.
Robin Goodey, Devon PGA secretary, now himself a golf club manager,
went through his records and worked out that, over the last 10
seasons, the pros have handed over £ 5375.00 to host golf
club`s
The figure is indeed significant, and as it goes directly into
each clubs Junior development programme, it is very probable, that
some of the younger PGA assistants now doing their training in
the County have themselves benefited . This is an interesting circle,
and as most Golf Clubs now recognise, a successful junior section,
means a strong club first team.
Devon Professional`s can be proud in their efforts so far, and
as their events go from strength to strength, so hopefully will
junior golf in the County.
