Tavistock Golf Club welcomed 40
Teams from all over Devon to compete in their annual
Pro Am.
The event which has been running for several years and is superbly organised
by Head Professional Dominic Rehaag and his assistant Wayne Basford is one of
the most popular events in the county.
The golf course despite the recent heavy downpours was in superb condition with
the greens running beautifully.

Weather on the day was slightly disappointing with a strong
wind and some heavy showers throughout the day. With
a strong field
of Professionals, scoring was expected to be good but it took
until the second last group to bring in the winning professional
score. Richard Sadler from Killiow returned a superb 6 under
par 65. Richard who is widely regarded as Cornwall's best player
is a course and distance specialist, having won the event two
years ago. He was among four invited Professionals from across
the border. Richard loves the course and his accurate iron play
enabled him to attack the tight pin positions. Many of the Devon
Professionals are now considering withdrawing his passport!
In second place was Devon PGA secretary Robin Goodey from Dawlish
Warren. Robin who has been combining the secretaries roll at
his club, with his playing, was delighted to hit top form again.
Tavistock is a course he has performed well on before, shooting
several scores in the low 60's over the years. His score of 68
was made by his superb finish. He birdied holes 16, 17 and 18
for a three under par total.
In third place was the ever consistent Devon Order of Merit number
one Paul Hendriksen. Paul who has been playing all season on
the Euro Pro Tour works tremendously hard on his game, and this
week heads to the British Assistants Championship, with Exeter's
in form Chris Gill, who also finished in the prizes with a 70.They
are both hoping for a high finish, in this prestigious national
event. Last year Paul just missed out by a shot in the same event.
Home Professional Dominic Rehaag was so busy organising the days
event that he forgot to sign his score card, and took some good
natured ribbing from his fellow Professionals. His error proved
costly as he also carded a 1 under par 70 which would have put
him nicely in the prizes.
Other notable scores were a 70 from Ashley Moon who played beautifully
from tee to green but putted indifferently. Also on 70 was Cornish
Pro`s Captain Scott Richards from Cape Cornwall and Stuart Barrett
from Dartmouth.
In the team event Richard Sadler also brought home the winning
line up with ex pro footballer Tony Edge, Colin Edge and Mark
Bawden. They returned a 12 under par team total of 130.
In second place in the team event was the team led by Barry Austin,
professional at Downes Crediton whose team included home players
Graham Ruth and Dave Burge.
Devon PGA Captain Iain Parker RND thanked club captain Tim Hawkins
and head greenkeeper Gary Foster for setting up the day superbly.
All the Pro`s are looking forward to returning next year.
The day was sponsored by Fairway
Furniture and MD John Harding
played on the day.
