The Second Exeter Ladies Pro-Am took place last Friday, at the immaculate Exeter Golf and Country Club. 36 teams of 3 ladies and one Devon Professional played in the event, which was put together superbly by head Professional Gary Milne and the small team of ladies which included this years captain.

The golf course was set up with many tough pin positions near the edges of the greens, with a strong swirling wind and firm bouncy conditions scoring was particularly testing on the day, the conditions placed a premium on accurate iron play, and good course management.

The winning professional on the day was Stuart Disney, who has only recently taken over as club pro at Padbrook Park, Stuart is delighted to be involved at his new club, and the excellent facilities have proved very helpful in sharpening up his game.

His round was full of contrast, as on the front nine he hit every green in regulation, but managed only one birdie to turn in one under par, the back nine though was a different story. He used all his short game skills to the fullest potential, as he had only ten putts in total for the second half of his round, he missed several greens by only a few yards, and he felt that his chipping had been particularly good with five of his ten putts being tap in`s for par. His shot of the day was a fantastic up and down from a plugged lie on the greenside bunker on the 17th hole, where he exploded successfully to eight feet and calmly holed to keep his round going.

In second place was home touring professional Sean Mason who has been working hard on his game since his move to Exeter, there was also a strong showing from two other Exeter players, firstly head pro Gary Milne, and the west regions number one top money winner Chris Gill who finished third on his own with a 70.

Also tied on 71 were John Axford from Teignmouth, Fingle Glen`s touring Pro Paul Hendriksen, Christian Vine from Thorne Park and Paul Turpin who represents Carolyn Bay.

There was great celebration in the clubhouse after the round as Exeter member Sally Bryer had a hole in one on the fourth par three, the hole was sponsored by Queens Street Furniture..

The day looks likely to become one of the most popular events in the Devon PGA calendar in years to come and gives the ladies in the county to get a look at the top players in the area in action.

The Winning team was led by Hele Park's Duncan Arnold, with a team of ladies from his club. Head Pro at Exeter Gary Milne thanked all of the days sponsors and the greenkeeping team at the club, and looked forward to next seasons event.
