The Devon Professionals and Teams from throughout
the County gathered at Teign Valley on Friday for the club's annual
Pro Am.
The weather was kind and the golf course was presented in imaculate condition,
many at the club felt that the course, which is maturing into an excellent
layout, was in the best condition ever. The greens were running at about 9.5
on the stimp metre, and were very receptive to well struck shots. This is always
a combination that the Pro's love and low scoring was always on the cards.
Winning Pro score was Robin Goodey who is combining his Professional role with
a part time position at Teignmouth Golf Club as Secretary. He blistered round
the Teign Valley course in a superb 66, Robin who has, by his own high standard's,
had a poor season, was delighted to see his game turn around.
He is playing this week with friend and long time fourball parter, Barry Austin,
in the national PGA fourball championship at Fulford, near York, lets hope
he keeps the good form going. Perhaps Robin, when he becomes a full time club
manager, will be able to enter the golf club secretary's events? That could
provide an interesting problem for the governing bodies to sort out!
In second place were a trio of the ever consistent Jon Langmead (Exminster),
Ashley Moon (Okehampton) and Dan Hendricksen (Churston). It was great to see
Dan, who has rediscovered some of his best form, since his return to his home
club in the prizes.
Devon PGA Captain Ashley Moon, who due to his busy work life as Head Pro at
the thriving Okehampton club, dose not play much summer golf, was delighted
to be back playing again. He showed he has lost nothing of his undoubted talent
and with things getting quieter at his club he looks a serious contender for
top honours during the winter series of pro events.
In the team event Dan Hendricksen brought in the winning team on a superb 19
under.
Robin Goodey's team was second on 18 under and Andy Fox was third on 17 under.
Teign Valley Captain Pat Masterton handed out the prizes an thanked everyone
for making the day such a great success, particularly Head Pro Scott Aimet
who made the event happen.
