Thursday 16th November 2017 – Stover Golf Club

Minutes :-

Meeting commenced at 17. 00

1. Apologies – were received from Jon Langmead, Bill Hammett, Malcolm Jordain, Richard Woods, Dan Hendriksen, Duncan Ratley, Neil Holman, Barry Austin

2. Minutes of the Previous AGM held at Churston Golf Club on Thursday the 20th October 2016 were agreed as correct.

3. Matters arising – none.

4. President’s Report – Bill Hammett had given his apologies however he had advised the secretary that he was delighted with the support the DPGA was receiving from the Professionals and their amateur partners.
Bill commented on the strength of the fields and also the fixture list which is certainly getting stronger with a great selection of courses for winter golf.
Bill wished to thank the committee for their continued support and work on behalf of the DPGA Alliance.
One point Bill did wish to raise was that the DPGA Alliance is about supporting the Professional’s and is winter golf, the secretary will endeavour to ensure everybody is informed although on occasions trolley bans and the odd temporary green might be in play, all players should be prepared.

5. Captains Report – Glenn Richards

Glenn advised that it had been an honour and privilege to Captain the Alliance and had really enjoyed his year as Captain. He was pleased with the support Graham & Bev had given as the secretary and assistant; the venues that had been arranged had in Glenn’s view been a big bonus to the Alliance and had assisted in its popularity.

6. Secretary’s Report –

The secretary reported that the Alliance was in a good financial position with a sum of £5100 held in a deposit account and over £3500 in the current account.
Although early in the season the age old problem of non payment before the event was ongoing and the secretary would propose to strengthen the rules around a ballot at a point later in the meeting.

7. Election of Officers:-

President – Bill Hammett proposed by Jason Fullard, seconded by Devon Greenslade everybody in favour.

Secretary – Graham Ruth, proposed by Paul Hill, seconded by Glenn Richards everybody in favour.

8. Election of Captain – Jason Fullard, proposed by Glenn Richards, and seconded by Simon Carter everybody in favour.

* Paul Hill from Honiton GC a long standing Alliance member was elected to the committee proposed by Simon Carter and seconded by Glenn Richards.

9. AOB

  • Guidance on completion of the start sheet:-
    It was agreed that the office will now work on mileage from the host club to the player’s home club, this will make the preparation clear and easy and everybody will understand how the start sheet has been complied.
  • Entries: - it was agreed that entries should be in the secretary’s office by the Thursday 7 days before the event and this would allow a draft to be completed on the Friday.
  • Pre-Payment – Ballot: - This was discussed at length and the secretary has been directed to take a firm line on these points. Everybody should endeavour to pre-pay their Pro for the entry and allow him to BACS the money to the secretary in advance of the entry deadline on the Thursday 7 days before.
  • In the event of a ballot being required any entries that have not pre-paid will in effect ballot themselves out!
  • If all entries are pre-paid and a ballot is required this will be conducted at the secretary’s office.
  • The secretary has raised the idea of a memorial trophy in Mike Dunk’s memory and this will be discussed and agreed amongst the committee.
  • The secretary has approached the Cornwall PGA Alliance about the possibility of an end of season match taking the top 5 pro’s and top 5 amateur’s from the OOM, the initial response has been positive from Cornwall and the secretary will keep everybody informed.
